On July 13, 2010, Barbara Lerner Spectre, an American academic and founding director of the Paideia, European Institute for Jewish Studies in Sweden, said in an interview with IBA News:

"Europe has not yet learned how to be multicultural... Jews are going to be at the center of that. It's a huge transformation... They are now going into a multicultural mode and Jews will be resented because of our leading role. But without that leading role... Europe will not survive."

The quote has been widely circulated online in video and written form. Spectre was speaking in the context of Jewish studies and cultural leadership in Europe. She is the director of Paideia, a non‑denominational academic institute in Stockholm focused on Jewish studies.
