European Union Approves New Sanctions on Belarus
On February 4, 2026, the European Union formally approved a new sanctions package targeting Belarus in response to ongoing actions by Minsk that the EU described as undermining regional security and democratic processes.
The new measures include asset freezes and travel bans affecting senior officials, state entities, and business leaders connected to national security and defense sectors.
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell stated the sanctions were coordinated with partner countries to reinforce diplomatic pressure on Minsk.
Belarusian officials condemned the measures and indicated that retaliatory actions could follow, including restrictions on European entities operating in Belarusian territory.
