Stephen boss, known professionally as tWitch, was an american dancer, choreographer, television personality and dj who died by suicide at age 40

Stephen Laurel Boss was born on September 29, 1982 in Montgomery, Alabama. He became known as a dancer and entertainer after rising to prominence as a finalist on season four of the television dance competition “So You Think You Can Dance.” He later worked as a choreographer and performer, and served as the in‑house dj and co‑executive producer on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” from 2014 until the programme’s end in 2022. During his career Boss also appeared in film roles and worked as a judge and mentor on dance programmes.

On December 13, 2022, at age 40, Boss was found dead in a motel room in Los Angeles with a gunshot wound to the head. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death a suicide; law enforcement later confirmed there was no evidence of foul play. Close friends and family reported that the death occurred shortly after he checked into the location and missed a scheduled check‑out time.

In the years following his death, family members and his widow publicly discussed aspects of his personal struggles. His wife described his outward entertainer persona as differing from his private battles with stress and fatigue. Some family members have disputed certain claims made about his life after his death, and discussions about mental health, personal challenges and how best to honour his legacy have continued. Boss is survived by his wife and three children.
