The Tetrarchy was established by Emperor Diocletian in 293 to address administrative and military challenges in the Roman Empire. This political system divided the empire into four parts, each ruled by a separate emperor.
Two senior emperors called Augusti and two junior emperors called Caesars shared power to provide more effective governance and defense. The Tetrarchy aimed to stabilize the empire and prevent succession crises.
This system marked a significant shift from the previous singular emperor model, impacting the empire's political structure for several decades.
