Christie alleges Kushner role in firing

On January 16, 2024, former New Jersey governor Chris Christie stated in interviews and campaign remarks that Jared Kushner played a role in his removal from a federal transition position following the 2016 United States presidential election. Charles Kushner pleaded guilty in 2005 and served a prison sentence. The case involved a scheme in which a cooperating witness was targeted with an intimidation operation connected to the investigation. Christie has publicly said that the prosecution created long-standing tension between himself and the Kushner family.

Jared Kushner joined the Trump campaign in 2016 and later became a senior adviser in the administration. During the presidential transition period, Kushner participated in personnel discussions and organizational decisions related to the incoming administration.

Christie reiterated his claims during the 2024 United States presidential campaign while discussing internal dynamics of the 2016 transition. Public statements from Trump transition officials at the time described the leadership change as part of a restructuring of the transition organization.
