After a prolonged period of civil war and the collapse of the Western Han, Liu Xiu successfully reestablished imperial authority, marking the beginning of the Eastern Han dynasty.

He consolidated power by defeating rival warlords and reinstating the capital at Luoyang. This consolidation restored relative stability across the Chinese heartland.

The restoration under Emperor Guangwu laid the foundation for nearly two centuries of Eastern Han rule, influencing Chinese governance, culture, and society.
