End of Sui Dynasty Unification Efforts

The Sui dynasty, which had temporarily unified China after a period of fragmentation, was facing collapse by early 618. Internal rebellions and external pressures marked the end of its political unification efforts.

The capital at Luoyang was a focal point for conflict as various warlords and competing factions sought power in the ensuing chaos. This period set the stage for the rise of the Tang dynasty, which would later reunify the region more permanently.
