UN rapporteur issues Gaza remarks

Francesca Albanese, United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, issued remarks on October 20, 2023, in connection with document A/78/545 of the United Nations General Assembly.

The document addressed the situation in the Gaza Strip following the escalation of hostilities that began earlier in October 2023. It outlined reported conditions affecting civilians, including access to essential services and infrastructure.

Albanese referenced obligations under international law and called for measures related to the protection of civilians. The remarks were presented within the framework of her mandate to monitor and report on human rights conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The report was submitted to the United Nations General Assembly during its seventy-eighth session. It formed part of ongoing reporting procedures concerning developments in the region.
