Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, the former Military Advocate General of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), was arrested following the leak of a video showing alleged abuse of a Palestinian detainee by soldiers at the Sde Teiman base. She had resigned last week taking responsibility for the leak.
Police reported she was briefly missing but later found and taken into custody. The investigation focuses on the unauthorized release of the video and potential involvement of top legal officers. Five reservists involved in the incident have been charged with aggravated abuse and causing serious bodily harm. The soldiers denied the charges and are not named publicly.
The leaked video, broadcast in August 2024, shows soldiers at the Sde Teiman base allegedly assaulting a detainee. The detainee received medical treatment for injuries. Israeli authorities continue investigating both the incident and the source of the leak.
