On January 15, 2026, President Donald Trump commuted the remaining federal prison sentence of James Phillip Womack, the adult son of U.S. Representative Steve Womack of Arkansas. The commutation was issued through an Executive Grant of Clemency from the U.S. Department of Justice and the Office of the Pardon Attorney, ending the custodial portion of Womack’s sentence.

James Phillip Womack had been serving an eight-year federal prison sentence imposed in May 2024 after pleading guilty to distributing more than five grams of methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentence also included five years of supervised release and a fine. The commutation does not erase the underlying conviction or the supervised release requirement, which remains in effect.

Representative Steve Womack publicly expressed gratitude for the commutation, saying it allowed his son to return home during a difficult time for the family. Public records and reporting show Womack has a lengthy criminal history, including prior drug- and firearm-related convictions. The presidential clemency action shortened the incarceration portion of his sentence but left all other conditions intact.
