Ukrainian support deployed against Iranian drone attacks
On March 5, 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine would provide assistance to the United States and allied countries to counter Iranian drone attacks in the Middle East. The announcement followed a request from U.S. officials seeking technical and operational support against Iranian-made Shahed attack drones that had been used in strikes across the region. Zelensky stated that Ukraine would provide specialized resources and deploy personnel with experience in counter-drone operations.
Ukrainian military specialists have gained extensive experience combating Shahed-type drones during the ongoing war with Russia, which has used large numbers of the Iranian-designed systems against Ukrainian infrastructure since 2022. According to Ukrainian officials, teams of experts and defensive technologies developed during the conflict would be made available to assist allied countries facing similar drone threats. The assistance includes interceptor drone systems, electronic warfare expertise, and training for personnel tasked with defending military facilities.
Zelensky also held discussions with several regional leaders, including officials from Bahrain and Kuwait, regarding the security situation related to Iranian missile and drone activity. Ukrainian authorities stated that cooperation with international partners would focus on defensive measures aimed at protecting military installations, civilian infrastructure, and shipping routes affected by the conflict. The Ukrainian government indicated that support operations would be coordinated with the United States and other partner nations while maintaining Ukraine’s own defensive capabilities in its ongoing war with Russia.
