Canada MAID statistics 2024. Racial identity of recipients

In 2024, a total of 16,499 people in Canada received Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID).

Of those, 15,927 responded to a question on racial, ethnic, or cultural identity. Among respondents, 95.6% identified as Caucasian (White). Other groups included East Asian at 1.6% and smaller percentages for other identities.

For context, approximately 70% of Canada’s overall population identifies as Caucasian (White). The MAID report data reflects self-identification reported by individuals who received MAID in 2024.
