On January 29, 2024, following the emergency call involving Hind Rajab, the Palestine Red Crescent Society dispatched an ambulance crew consisting of two paramedics to her last known location in Gaza City. Communication with the ambulance was lost shortly after it entered the area.
For nearly two weeks, the fate of the crew remained unknown. On February 10, 2024, rescue teams discovered the destroyed ambulance and the bodies of the two paramedics near the location of Hind Rajab’s car. Evidence showed the ambulance was clearly marked, stationary, and struck by tank fire.
Human rights organizations stated that the attack raised serious concerns regarding violations of international humanitarian law, particularly the targeting of medical personnel. No transparent or independent investigation has publicly resulted in accountability for the deaths.
