The Bar Kokhba revolt was a major Jewish uprising against the Roman Empire in the province of Judaea. The rebellion started under the leadership of Simon Bar Kokhba who was proclaimed the Messiah by many Jews.

The revolt was fueled by religious, political, and social tensions stemming from Roman restrictions on Jewish practices and the building of a Roman city on sacred Jewish land. It initially saw some successes before being brutally suppressed by the Romans after several years.
