Foundation of the Sasanian Empire

The Sasanian Empire was founded by Ardashir I after he defeated the Parthian king Artabanus IV in battle. This victory marked the end of the Parthian dynasty and the rise of the Sasanian dynasty in Persia.

Ardashir I established his capital in Istakhr, near the ruins of Persepolis, cementing a new era of Persian imperial rule. This empire became one of the leading powers in the region and shaped Iranian culture for centuries.
