Pescennius Niger, governor of Syria, declared himself Roman emperor after the death of Emperor Pertinax. His claim to the throne sparked a civil war against Septimius Severus, who also claimed the emperorship.
The conflict primarily unfolded in the eastern provinces of the Roman Empire, with key battles around Syria and the eastern Mediterranean. Niger gained significant support but was eventually defeated by Severus in 193 AD.
This revolt illustrates the instability and power struggles during the Year of the Five Emperors, profoundly affecting Roman imperial politics and military dynamics.
