Postumus, a Roman commander, declared himself emperor of a breakaway realm in the western provinces known as the Gallic Empire. This realm comprised Gaul, Germania, Britannia, and Hispania.
This secession occurred amid the Crisis of the Third Century, as the Roman Empire faced numerous internal and external threats. Postumus established his rule from the western provinces, effectively creating a rival entity to Rome.
The Gallic Empire lasted for over a decade, maintaining relative stability in its territories before being reabsorbed into the Roman Empire.
