On April 26, 2024, Israeli police detained a group of rabbis and peace activists near the Erez Crossing along the Gaza–Israel border. The group was participating in a coordinated protest organized by Rabbi-led peace networks, including participants from Israel and the United States.
The demonstrators, numbering approximately 30 people, attempted to approach the crossing while carrying food supplies intended as a symbolic gesture to highlight reported food shortages and humanitarian conditions in Gaza. The action was part of a broader protest calling for a ceasefire in the ongoing Gaza conflict and increased humanitarian access to the territory.
According to reports from participating organizations and international media coverage, Israeli police intervened before the group reached the border crossing. Seven participants were detained during the incident. The organizers stated that the food supplies were later redirected for donation to other locations in the region.
The protest took place during the period of the 2023–2024 Israel–Hamas war, a conflict that began after the October 7, 2023 attacks and subsequent Israeli military operations in Gaza. The Erez Crossing has historically functioned as one of the controlled entry points between Israel and the northern Gaza Strip.
