Yazidi Genocide
On August 3, 2014, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) launched an हमला on the Sinjar region of northern Iraq, targeting the Yazidi minority. ISIS forces captured towns and villages, accusing the Yazidis of religious deviation and designating them for elimination under its ideological framework.
ISIS fighters conducted mass executions of men and elderly women, abducted thousands of women and children, and subjected captives to forced conversion, sexual slavery, forced marriage, and forced labor. Large numbers of civilians fled to Mount Sinjar, where many were trapped without adequate food, water, or medical care. Humanitarian airlifts and military interventions were later initiated to evacuate stranded civilians.
Thousands of Yazidis were killed, and more than 6,000 women and children were abducted during the campaign. International investigations by the United Nations and other bodies concluded that ISIS committed genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes against the Yazidi population. The attacks resulted in mass displacement, long-term trauma, and ongoing efforts to locate missing persons.
