Trump Armenia–Albania Confusion Statement

On August 8, 2025, United States President Donald Trump announced at the White House a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan aimed at reducing long-standing tensions in the South Caucasus region. The agreement followed negotiations concerning territorial disputes and regional security arrangements between the two countries.

During public remarks and subsequent media appearances, Trump incorrectly referred to Armenia as Albania while describing the agreement and claiming diplomatic involvement. Albania is a Balkan country in Southeastern Europe and has no territorial conflict with Azerbaijan. The statements were recorded in interviews and press exchanges and were widely reported by international media.

The confusion between Armenia and Albania was noted by journalists and foreign officials. Video footage from press events and summit meetings showed reactions from attending leaders and media representatives. The remarks were characterized in reporting as a geographical and diplomatic misstatement made in the context of discussing the Armenia–Azerbaijan agreement.
