A court has sentenced the founder of a local pride advocacy group to a term of imprisonment following a conviction for the rape of a 12-year-old boy.

The conviction was delivered after a jury found the defendant, Stephen Ireland guilty on charges related to sexual assault of a minor. The offenses were reported to authorities in 2024, prompting a criminal investigation.

Prosecutors presented evidence during the trial that established the abuse occurred over a period of several months. The court heard testimony from the victim and reviewed digital communications and forensic evidence.

The judge stated that the seriousness of the offense, the age of the victim, and the breach of trust were significant factors in determining the sentence.

The defendant was taken into custody immediately following sentencing. Authorities confirmed that the individual will be required to register as a sex offender upon release.

Support services have been made available to the victim and the victim’s family.
