🔎 Investigate this event

The Biafran mass killings occurred during the Nigerian Civil War, which lasted from 1967 to 1970. Following the secession of the southeastern provinces of Nigeria and the declaration of the Republic of Biafra, widespread violence and mass killings took place.

Ethnic tensions between the Igbo people and other Nigerian groups escalated, resulting in targeted violence, including massacres and starvation due to blockades. Civilians were heavily affected, with millions estimated dead from conflict-related causes and famine.

The Nigerian federal government imposed a blockade on Biafra, which contributed to a humanitarian crisis, leading to international awareness and aid efforts. The war ended in January 1970 with the reintegration of Biafra into Nigeria.

The Biafran conflict remains a significant example of ethnic conflict and post-colonial struggles in Africa.
