The Battle of the Margus was a significant confrontation between Emperor Carinus and his rival, Diocletian, near the Margus River in the Roman province of Moesia Superior. This battle marked a turning point in the struggle for control over the Roman Empire during the Crisis of the Third Century.

Fought on July 28, the battle resulted in the defeat and death of Carinus, enabling Diocletian to consolidate power and later initiate reforms that stabilized the empire. The location was strategically important due to its proximity to major Roman roads and the Danube frontier.

This conflict set the stage for the establishment of the Tetrarchy and a new phase in Roman imperial administration, influencing the empire's trajectory for decades to come.
