In the 1920s, businessman Julius Barmat, who was Jewish, became involved in a political corruption scandal in the Weimar Republic. The affair implicated government officials in bribery and fraud, severely damaging political parties. Later, right-wing factions used the scandal to fuel antisemitic propaganda. Although a major political event at the time, it is often overlooked in general histories of the era outside academic literature.
