Meir David Kahane (August 4, 1932 – November 5, 1990) was an American-born Orthodox rabbi and political activist. He founded the Jewish Defense League (JDL) in 1968 to advocate for Jewish security and self-defense.
Kahane later emigrated to Israel, founding the Kach party in 1971, which won one Knesset seat in 1984 before being banned. He authored books and pamphlets on Jewish law and community defense. Kahane was assassinated in New York City in 1990.
